Eyeglasses Galore!

Scott Cacciola and I are on the front page of the Journal with this A-hed about the latest in haute hoops couture: ostentatious, thick-rimmed, chunky Clark Kent eyewear. From LeBron and Dwyane Wade to Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, the new cool is geek chic, never mind old stigmas about astigmatism. Eyeglasses! What a world we live in. 

One other theory that I really loved came from Put This On co-host Jesse Thorn: “Fake eyeglasses borders on taunting. I think that when you start wearing fake eyeglasses, the reason you’re doing it is to call attention to your physical perfection. When you’re 6-foot-8, 250 pounds, all muscle, wearing faux corrective lenses, suggesting that you are so physically gorgeous that you can handicap yourself on purpose and you will still be in the NBA championship — it dances on the line of nose-thumbing.” I know! I have this problem every day.
